A new band ‘steps on the scene’.
On the 12th of May, Holmfirth Folk Festival would enter a timewarp to the glory days with rock staples; while leading the way with faith as Jimmy and the Juveniles display their own writing talent. Arriving on the Glastonbury-esque stage just before two o’clock to an anticipated crowd, the concert plunges the audience into a tour de force.
On Thursday the 11th of April, I had the pleasure of attending an eye opening event with author and film maker Matt Dickinson. Who is most notably famous for ascending into the clouds through the notorious North Face of Mount Everest in 1996, amid the worst inclement conditions ever recorded. This would leave a significant mark on the author as it influenced him to write ‘The Everest Files’ – an award winning trilogy.
Chance may crown this production phenomenal.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth is arguably one of the most recognisable pieces of theatre to ever grace society and be established in our own curriculum. Having weaved itself into the cloth of English culture, Leeds Playhouse deserves its place under the sun and be acclaimed just like Shakespeare’s tragic climax into manipulation, malevolence, and murder. Simply, the performance can be glorified for expressing these themes poignantly except that would be omitting the avant-garde inclusions.
Recently, a showing of Arthur Millers critically underrated play ‘A View from the Bridge’ was perfectly performed by the community theatre for amateur performers, Players Theatre. However, ‘amateur’ is exceedingly inaccurate as this rendition provides justice and the enjoyable inclusion of entertainment but still infusing the audience with an unforgettable experience.
Recently I had the unforgettable experience of having a piece of theatre that I, myself had written, being brought to life by a performance executed with assistance from group of phenomenal actors and organisers who certainly reciprocated my intentions. The piece performed was an extract from my up and coming Kitchen Sink Drama entitled ‘Monday Morning’ written and directed by myself, Oliver Mellor. As stated, the play is called Monday Morning and was advertised as:
On Friday the 8th of March 2024, we celebrated International Women’s Day. A necessary event that highlights and memorialises the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This captivating event allowed recognition and honour for those who have contributed to society, it also allowed us to reflect upon those who sometimes are unfortunately overshadowed and therefore deserve significantly more appreciation. Those who attended were greeted by three individuals who had completely different experiences and interesting stories to share. These speakers were: Carolyn Mayling, Chérie Taylor Battiste and Katrina Hodge.
